It's not about proving who has the biggest...ego, it's about managing a particuler sideline, in a particular game and the one person with that responsibility made a judgment (regardless of what a sportswriter felt would make a great opportunity to blow air up under some skirts).
There should be absolutely no doubt exactly how big the stick we all carry actually is, the only question is under what circumstances
WE CHOOSE to smack someone with it.
Flagging, disqualifying or otherwise embarrassing Hayden, aside from creating a couple of weeks of follow-up articles and punishing a team for an emotional outburst of a non-player, seems to accomplish little, if anything.
As for what influence this situation may, or may not have on any Administrative, or other non-player, personnel at other games at different levels, the
FACT remains, we each carry the same
BIG STICK and maintain the sole authority, as well as responsibility, to decide
WHEN and
WHERE, and perhaps most importantly
WHETHER the unique situation we're dealing with requires
USING IT
