Ready Ref

I found something called the "Ready Ref" when using Google.

ready-ref.com

Do many people use this device? How do you ensure play clock timing when there is no visible clock? Or what if a visible clock will resume on the snap?

I purchased one for our crew about 6 years ago. I wouldn't work a game without it anymore. It allows our back judge to focus on his primary duties and not his watch or a scoreboard clock. He also likes the little vibration every once in a while, especially when the games get boring !!

I got one this year and love it! (And for the same reasons that R&U mentioned.) On nights we work a JV/V doubleheader, we often move to different positions for the JV game. Whomever works my spot in the back gets the ReadyRef, and those who don't use it very often like it, as well.

I have used one since 2006. I love it and it takes my focus off of my wrist and having to look at away from players. I worked a couple of games without it because I either left it home or the battery did not work. I felt lost and discombobulated without being able to use the Ready Ref.

I would recommend this to anyone, it is well worth the money.

Peace

Jeff:

The documentation says one battery should last the whole season, but I had to put my 3rd one in the last week of the regular season. How many batteries do you go through in a season?

As a side note, I even use it for JFL and JH games, but only to time the TOs. (It has two settings. 25 & 60). (We don't get too wrapped up about DOG in the lower levels here.)

I use this and don't have any problems... much less expensive than the ready ref...

I take my battery out after every use. I wish they would put a switch to turn off the device so if it gets bumped in the bag it doesn't start timing and drain the battery.

I ususally go through 2 per season.

Actually I use one battery for a season. That only happened once and that battery was in the device since the last season.

Peace

I've had one for a couple of seasons now. Invaluable for those J.V. or freshman games where you are the white hat and have no back judge. Makes it easy to time, and still watch what you should be watching without looking down at your watch.

I used on in a game earlier this year and loved it. If I was a BJ more often I would purchase one for sure.

It appears that the countdown values are hard-coded.

I think it is a great product. However, I think they need to update it. No reason it couldnt be much smaller. Like the size of the pager's we used to all carry around in the 90 s.

Agree. Smaller, better rain case, and a switch to turn the device on/off so you don't have to remove the battery.

yep... and a modern web site you can purchase it from. C'mon folks, this is 2012. Put up a website. This is the only place I've bought something from in the last 10 years where I had to read the credit card # over the phone. Pretty much every varsity official in our association has one.
