On our crew, only the referee throws an IG flag. I instruct my crewmates to come to me if they don't see a reciever in the area of a pass, as I may be watching action on the quarterback. We would rather have a late flag in this situation than have to pick one up because I see a reciever being thrown to or an inaccurate pass caused by contact on the quarterback.

The R does on our crew but he does look for help to make sure there was not a eligible receiver in the area. This is one flag that is better late then never.

The R is the only one to throw an IG flag. I am happy to take feedback from wings, etc. but that flag is mine and mine alone.

I am the R on my crew and I'm the only person that will throw this flag. Like Rich I expect that my wings will come in to give me any relevant information in regards to a legal receiver being in the vicinity of the ball.

It is always the Referee and only the Referee in any mechanic. Unless I have read something different that is the case in every level and basic mechanics set. As stated the crew can help but the Referee is watching the passer the entire time while the other officials only know where the ball ends up which is only part of the reason for the penalty.

Peace

As the R, I tell my crew I am primarily responsible, but if they're 110% sure, to go ahead and throw. I've had this happen only once in 25 years, on a play where the QB threw the pass over my head to the wide side of the field while under extreme pressure.

In this situation, the wing should come and talk to the R and the R can drop the flag at the spot of the pass, which is needed for enforcement anyway.
