What ya got?
A84 catches the pass while airborn in the EZ 1 yard deep. While airborn he is driven from the zone to the one yard line where he comes down and completes the catch. Touchdown?

Fed yes. NCAA, not that simple but I'm guessing Smitty isn't asking about NCAA.

...which means that if A84 is carried OOB and judged that he would have landed inbounds, it's still a catch and a TD. But you better whistle the play dead before he lands OOB to signal that forward progress was stopped.

I disagree, the new rules states that the official no longer has to judge if the receiver was going to land in bounds or not. If he is pushed and lands OOB it is an incomplete catch.

Sorry, that should have been 7.5.4G, a new case play for 2012.

You are correct if using the term "pushed" out. The new rule still allows for some a catch if someone is "carried" out. This is similar to the college rule. The philosophy however is the defender had better grab the player, throw him over his shoulder, take several steps, and then dump the receiver out of bounds in order to get the benefit of forward progress. In other words it is extremely unlikely to happen and it had better be huge and obvious if you are going to call it.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. Forward progress is a different animal. Read 7.5.4G.

And 4.3.3B, both new case plays for 2012 that reflect the new rule and philosophy.
