Pylon in or out of bounds?

Had a disagreement tonight between a few experienced officials and didn't really come up with a solution. We know what the rule book says but not sure what they are defining as inside edge. Do you put your back pylons just on the inside of the endzone or on the outside. I always put it out of bounds at the corner but was told that is incorrect, is it?

All the pylons are placed OOB.

If the ball touches a pylon at the goal line, it is considered to have broken the goal line plane.

Pylons are simply a 3-D representation of the intersection of the sideline and the goal line or end line.

mtridge must be asking about the pylons that represent the extension of the inbounds lines, as to how far out of bounds to put them. I guess it depends on whether you're more interested in providing another visual of the boundary (pylons up to the inside edge of the chalk) or fewer things for a player to be out of bounds by virtue of touching (somewhat outside the boundary). Also a matter of convenience if you're chalking the field after placing those particular pylons rather than before.

Not how I read it:

But your advice about moving the hash mark pylons back from the end line is good.
