PENALTY: Unsportsmanlike conduct (Arts. 1, 2) – (S27) – (S7-27) – if dead
ball, 15 yards. Also disqualification if flagrant – (S47).

When would you say taunting is Flagrant?

I think the biggest gripe from coaches on the matter is kids may get away with it this week then popped 15 yards for it next week... I guess the states, and much more the crews under a certain assignment secretary (if you do it this way) should be very consistent.

Maybe the BEST thing to do is for the coach to coach it not to happen at all?

Precisely.... or, as my HS and college coaches always said "Act like you've been there before".

The less post-touchdown celebration, the lower the probability that the players will step 'over the line', especially since 'the line' is always going to be slightly different from crew-to-crew and official-to-official.

When my 30+ years of experience and training kicks in and tells me it's flagrant.

Not gonna find that in any website to cut and paste.

explain what you think flagrant means?

Really?

c. Flagrant — a foul so severe or extreme that it places an opponent in danger
of serious injury, and/or involves violations that are extremely or persistently
vulgar or abusive conduct.

It means whatever the official that is calling the game says it is that day. As it relates to taunting, I do not think I have seen anything come close to that. There is a reason they leave this vague as times change and trends of what players will do will change.

Peace

And that's why we don't rely on the cut and paste method when explaining a ruling to the head coach.

I know where you are trying to go with this. This is not true at all. This rule is purposely vague in my opinion as things that will be over the top changes over time. Like someone said earlier, a high five has turned into a chest bump. A pointing to the sky has turned into a chest tap. A high step has turned into a pointing at the opponent. A lot has changed and in 5 years kids will do something they do not do now. So if they get specific and say this is what is flagrant, the rules will not catch up to things that might not be in black and white.

Peace
