Taunting question

A taunts at the 5YL as he is running the ball into the EZ - unsportsmanlike foul - therefore treated as a dead ball foul...

So the score counts and the penalty can be taken on the try or the kickoff - correct?

That is correct in NFHS

Refsmitty Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:37pm

Thanks - yes NFHS

CANADIAN RULING:

Count the score. 10 yards for OC on the convert or ensuing KO.

This was a question on my promotion test this year. Correct ruling by the way.

You have a promotion test?

What were you promoted from and to?

bcl1127 Tue Oct 04, 2011 02:54pm

In IL you have X(registered) R(Recognized) and C(Certified) officials. Seeing IL has there own test, they have a new part 2 test that is 25 multiple choice questions, you need to get above an 88 to qualify for promotion. This was my first time for promotion, so I am now an R. In two years I will take the test to become a C.

It goes towards the power rating which impacts playoff assignments.

How many of you would flag for USC if after the TD two kids ran up and chest bumped?

RadioBlue Wed Oct 05, 2011 08:20am

The chest bump is to today what a high-five was 15 years ago. I don't have a problem with either.

PENALTY: Unsportsmanlike conduct (Arts. 1, 2) – (S27) – (S7-27) – if dead
ball, 15 yards. Also disqualification if flagrant – (S47).

When would you say taunting is Flagrant?

airraider Wed Oct 05, 2011 08:32am

I think the biggest gripe from coaches on the matter is kids may get away with it this week then popped 15 yards for it next week... I guess the states, and much more the crews under a certain assignment secretary (if you do it this way) should be very consistent.

Maybe the BEST thing to do is for the coach to coach it not to happen at all?

Precisely.... or, as my HS and college coaches always said "Act like you've been there before".

The less post-touchdown celebration, the lower the probability that the players will step 'over the line', especially since 'the line' is always going to be slightly different from crew-to-crew and official-to-official.

Agree, as long as it's done within a short period of time after the TD.

As a normal practice I would not at all. But like anything things can be taken too far and that would change the circumstances.

Peace

When my 30+ years of experience and training kicks in and tells me it's flagrant.

Not gonna find that in any website to cut and paste.
