I'm curious to hear what the rule is from officials from states other than Ohio.

Gentlemen, legal or illegal in your state?

No poll though please.

Illegal in all states except for Massachusetts and Texas (both play under NCAA rules).

That play looks very similar to the play that JRod37 and I had in a game a couple of weeks ago (discussed here: Hurdling).

They talked about this today on the ESPN segment of the show "First Take" on "First and 10."

It is just amazing that people that are paid for a living are this clueless about these things and do absolutely no research to find out basic information. But then make a statement about how stupid something is but could have contacted the National Federation or even the OHSAA to find out why this was illegal and the information behind the rule. But no, they just make comments from a clearly uneducated point of view and call the rule stupid. It may be a stupid rule, but at least find out why the rule is there so that you do not say something stupid.

Peace

They continually talk about how the runner doesn't need protection, but they fail to mention that a significant part of the equation is what happens if a foot or knee violently collides with the defender's head as the player is hurdling.

That said, I'd be happy with the NCAA rule. Exempt the runner.

I completely agree. I just wish sometimes people in the media would do a little research and find out all the details. I guess that is asking too much.

Peace

Obviously, the runner doesn't need protection... after all, the act of carrying an oblong piece of brown leather is known to convey magical injury-reducing properties.

Who was the college player last year who landed on his head after hurdling a potential tackler?
