Lightbulb

I have to give the lesson at one of my association mtgs. in Sept. The topic is Goal Line Rules and Mechanics. Does anyone have any unusual plays that I could use as examples? I just don't want to review the same basic stuff over and over in the same lesson. (Yeah, I realise that review is necessary, but we also need something extra.)
Thanks ahead of time!!

Thumbs down

Watch out for the hard dive fake into the line. Tell your wing officials to delay on their whistle until they knwo exactly where the ball is. Our crew was burned on this once. ONCE. The QB fakes hard into the line and just as the whistle blows, QB pulls the ball out and prances into the endzone for a should be touchdown. QB=Not happy. Head Coach=Not happy. Fans= Not happy. Crew=Not happy, embarassed.

When inside the 5 yard line and at the snap, the wing guys should go straight to the goal line and officiate back to the ball.

I think all kinds of plays involving force and meomentum are excellent to discuss in regards to goal line plays. Come up with as many situations as you can where the ball is loose and discuss what should happen.

Just a suggestion

Smile Goal line.

In our association we follow these mechanics:
1.A's ball on or within B's 5 yard line: HL and LJ break for goal line on the snap and then officiate back to the ball. SJ and FJ line up and cover end line (6 man crew).
2.A's ball on or within A's 5 yard line: HL and LJ break for the goal line on the snap and then officiate back to the ball. SJ and FJ line up 17 to 20 yards downfield depending on A's formation (6 man crew).
3. A's ball more than 5 yards to go to B's end zone: SJ and FJ are responsible for and line up on the goal line (6 man crew), HL and LJ stop at the 2 yard line when following play; let SJ and FJ cover goal line unless there is a passing play and the SJ and FJ have to cover the end line; then the HL and LJ would cover the goal line.
4. Only covering officials (HL, LJ, BJ, FJ, and SJ) should signal touchdown and only if they see it. Other officials should not mirror touchdown signal. U can give one of the wings a subtle "thumbs-up" signal to communicate that the ball is in possession of the runner in the end zone (useful for dives or sneaks through the middle when the U may have a better view).
5. Good points about holding your whistles. See the ball first.
6. Review and study the rules regarding force.
7. Be alert.

Lightbulb bean bags

When plays originate inside the 5 yard line, the wings and the U should referee with the bean bags in their hand. The spot of any loose ball in this area is even more important than other areas of the field because of the potential for momentum rules to become a factor.
