ESPN the Magazine Article by a Son

Check out this link for a pretty good story in ESPN the Magazine by Ryan McGee. A great tribute to his dad Jerry McGee.

I read that when I got my copy. Interesting look. Interesting guy. A little over the top from a journalist's standpoint, but whatever.

REPLY: O&B...may have been a little over the top, but remember it was written not only by a sportswriter, but also by a son--a proud son, whose emotions came through loud and clear. I would have expected nothing less. It was a proud recollection of his father's second career.

I understand that. But I'm a journalist by training and trade, and so I thought it strayed just a touch over the line. I understand why, because he's writing about his dad. But an editor should have toned it down just a bit more, IMHO.

I would be upset if anyone - journalist or not - didn't go a little over the top when talking about a family member at the top of a chosen avocation. I hope that some day my offspring has a reason to be proud, and goes over the top about it too! God knows that I will when it comes to the big days in his life.
