I do remember the NFL disciplining Quirk. It may have been a fine, but I also heard (through the grapevine) that some of the other U's in the league wanted to start a fund for Quirk to take pro wrestling lessons.

Jim Quirk had another similar incident in 1999 during a game between the Rams and Bears. In that game Quirk tackled Jeff Robinson of the Rams in order to break up a fight. Jim Quirk received a phone call from Dick Vermeil a few days later saying he did the right thing.

Vermeil is old school when it comes to discipline. He probably also thanked Quirk for teaching Robinson how to tackle correctly.
