Fair catch

What is the correct call...

Fair catch signal but the receiver lets the ball bounce on the ground - it bounces directly to the receiver and he returns the ball. What is the call? or Is there a call?

No receiver may advance the ball after a valid or invalid fair-catch signal has been given by any member of the receiving team.

Penalty: Delay of game - 5 yards.

We just kill the play as soon as he gets it. Never called the delay as we're usually getting a ball for A. He rarely gets more than a couple of yards away from where he caught it.

REPLY: Here's the rule: 4-2-2g: "ART. 2 . . . The ball becomes dead and the down is ended: ... (g) Following a valid or invalid fair-catch signal given by any member of the receiving team when a scrimmage kick or free kick is caught or recovered by any member of the receiving team beyond, in or behind the neutral zone."

Hey Tom...do you remember the official from my association (I still don't know who it was) who argued with us about this back 5 or so years ago?
