Hochuli

Don't know if this has already been asked, but after the events of last week, does anybody know if Ed Hochuli worked an NFL game this past weekend? I'd have a hard time believing he was assigned to the Charger game tonight!

I was listening to the radio last week on Thursday or Friday and heard about the only intelligent comment from a sports media guy about the whole mess.

He said that Hochuli had apologized to San Diego and their fans and was still answering emails as late as Wednesday. The radio guy said that Hochuli needed to do what coaches tell QBs and DBs all the time - if you make a mistake, and get burned or throw an interception, get over it and get ready for the next play.

Time to move on Ed.

From the Associate Press:

Ref Ed Hochuli returns to field after trying week

BALTIMORE (AP) — Back in action after his admitted incorrect call last week, NFL referee Ed Hochuli worked Sunday's game between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.

Hochuli's call last Sunday played a key role in Denver's 39-38 win over San Diego. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, the ball slipped from his hand and a San Diego player recovered. But Hochuli, who has refereed two Super Bowls, ruled it an incomplete pass.

Denver retained possession, scored a touchdown and then won with a successful 2-point conversion.

In his return Sunday, Hochuli spoke with confidence on the loudspeaker during the first half.

During the days leading up to the game, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, "Mistakes are a part of our game. We do everything we can to avoid them, but Ed's a fantastic official, and he'll continue to be a great official."

Terry Bradshaw apparently said that Hochuli should be fined and suspended, "just like the players are."

Problem is, they don't fine and suspend players for making mistakes. Guy runs a wrong route? Fine him. Guy throws a pick in double coverage? Suspend him.

Talking heads overreact. Hochuli's back at work. Anything that the pundits could come up with for the NFL to to do him would be nothing compared to what he's already been through.
