Ben Dreith LIVES!

This happened yesterday in Maryland-NC State.

Referee: Ron Cherry.

But the original is still the best.

See, I don't think it's great. I think it is silly. Why copy the original? He doesn't need to give an explanation, especially one like this.

If it just "came out," that's one thing. Officials have probably had this one in the back of their minds for the last 20 years.

If he'd been looking for an opportunity to get that in someday, the fourth quarter of a 37-0 game between a couple of teams not going many places is as good as any, I reckon.

If it was an homage, then good on ya, Ron.

A few other things I like about this clip, the preliminary signal is a personal foul yet the announcer says its a hold and the screen overlay say its a block in the back. You gotta love TV presentations.

Imagine the call from the movie "Necessary Roughness", where they called the personal foul on the ninja linebacker. You'd have the referee doing all his signals, the announcers botching up the penalty call, and the screen overlay advertising the best little whorehouse in Texas!

I think it's pretty funny.

BTW, how long ago did the NFL switch back to white hat for the R and black hats for everyone else?

Ohhh I love it.... great stuff!

Kind of looks like Ron couldn't hold back the smile after he announced it.

Maybe it was a deal where in their pre-game or at some time someone on the crew might have been daring him to do it and he found the right spot and time to go ahead.
