No. The only requirement is that it must be any color other than white and clear and must not be altered in anyway that deminishes the protection of the teeth.

A coach asked me because an official in a youth game told him it was a new rule in 2007. I hadn't heard anything or read anything but I wanted to make sure. Thanks for the input mrd

The youth league I work uses NF rules but this is one of the rules that they added. This is checked during their weigh in & basic equipment check. Actually I like the rule because you can see the strap on the facemask so you know they've got one. I always see HS players dropping them or looking for them.
