I prefer getting the coaches visit done as soon as possible.At the HS level that is not later than 30 prior to KO. Anything later than that and you run the risk of going to the field and finding no one there ! If they are back in the locker room the coach , by then, is starting his pregame "speech" and we don't want to interrupt that.

The closer to game time you get the less effective the meeting is. The visit should be short and to the point. I only take the U with me because we do go early and it allows the rest of the crew to discuss downfield passing situations while the U and I are out. The wing officials introduce themselves after they come out ( about 20-15 prior to KO) and the coaches are on the field.

When I was in TX ( about 15 years ago) we went very early and did the coin toss with the coaches after the visits. That way both teams could prepare for the opening sequence.
