I'm interested in signals, sure, but this one?

It simply doesn't matter what the referee does here.

OK, not as "experienced" as alot of others here. But, I was always taught that signals were just as important as all the other areas you mentioned. Today, when I look at a football game, I spend just as much time looking at officials as I do watching the game itself. Reason; I am always wanting to learn and improve. Which is why I ask questions also. When I ask a "senior" official a question, and he responds with the attitude of "who cares", it may be the last time I ask that person anything. But, if he replies that in this situation, there really isn't an "approved" signal, and then gives me a suggestion on how to accomplish this mechanic, I have more respect for him/her.

Not sure about others, but I have learned alot from this discussion board. And the best thing is, I can ask questions here without getting belittled (sp?).

JMO,

I'm not belittling anyone. Really.

Changing gears a bit....

In my sincere opinion, we need to consider how OTHERS view us more than how other officials view us.

We all know officials who are sloppy on mechanics, for example, but have the honest respect of coaches, administrators, etc. I'm not saying we should try to emulate these officials when it comes to their mechanics, but we shouldn't necessarily dismiss everything about those officials because they don't use the right signals.

Personally, I try to take something positive away from everyone I work with. One guy I work with has terrible judgment, bad mechanics, a dirty uniform, etc., so I need to look really hard. But he is good with coaches and doesn't take comments made in the heat of battle personally -- and that is a trait I wish I had more of.

Sorry if I offended anyone. 14 days till my first basketball game.

First of the season. Been doing HS hoops the longest, since the fall of 1987.
