Fourth and 10 for K from their own 20 yard line. K in punt formation. Snap sails over punter's head and into the end zone. Punter recovers, scrambles, and as he's being tackled gets off an extremely weak punt. It rolls to K's own 15 where;
a) R muffs it, K recovers and advances to K's 31 yard line.
b) K recovers and advances to K's own 19 yard line.
c) The ball comes to rest at the 15 with no one attempting to recover it.

What's your call? NFHS rules.

In A), it's a 1st down for K.

In B), K is short of the line to gain. Ball goes over to R.

In C), the ball goes over to R like any other punt.

a) K-1D/10 @ 31.

b) if K player recovering was offside, flag as offside pass from point of kick = R-1D/10 @ point of kick. If K player was onside, yards were not gained = R-1D/10 @ K-19.

c) we wait until someone touches it.

Up here in Canada the rules are a bit different.

REPLY: I concur with BktBallRef's rulings above. And as far as the differences between Canadian and American football rules...I watched a llittle bit of a CFL game Friday night. Watching the offensive movements just before the snap, I thought that maybe someone had sounded a fire alarm in the stadium.Runner

Me too. But the Canadian teams that come down to Seattle play by a straight NFHS book... no modifications. Aye?

I know that Hamilton has an NAFL team that plays by NCAA rules, and watching the game while on the stickcrew confuses the hell out of me. You think there aren't that many differences but there are.

What if A) were different?

What if, in FredFan7's original posting for scenario A, after the R muff, K advanced the ball only to the 29?

R's muff has no significance since it is behind the line. K may legally recover the kick behind the line and advance, but since he did not make the line to gain,30 yard line, R would take over on the 29, 1st and 10.
