May be somewhat of a stretch, but the use of excessive video highlighting of EVERY tiny facet of the game, 24 hour Sportsnews coverage seeking anything negative they can discover and the acceptance of heavy betting influence under the guise of "Fantasy Football" have combined to bring a lot of the wrong type, and intensity of attention focus to the dark side of the game
Like most things mankind creates, that work really well, there are those that insist on tweaking, adjusting and expanding it, until it stops resembling what made it so popular and leaves those same same people wondering what went wrong
