In Phoenix....
Here in the Metro Phoenix area, we get a flat fee of $5.00 for each official for any school we work in the metro area. This could be for the school next door to your house or the school on the other side of town, up to 50 miles away. The assigners generally try to keep officials in their "areas", but sometimes we have to mnake that crosstown journey. It probably evens out over the course of the season.
One interesting thing is that Freshman and JV officials get their mileage paid with their game fees, but Varsity officials receive a seperate check for mileage at the end of the season.
