Just wondering if your local associaions pay travel on top of game fees for High School games.....In GA., schools can be charged a flat fee by the officials' association that handles the school. This fee is on top of the assignment fee. My group charges the schools the same fee regardless of the game level....so, a 2 person crew ends up making more in travel than a 3 person crew.

FYI, all schools are assigned to the association by the state based on geography, group size, etc. We have 26 associations in the state, with 7 located in Metro Atlanta.

Western MA gives no travel for HS games. Course, we travel a max of about 30 miles.

When the game is outside of a certain radius for the officials, the R gets a set amount per mile and is the responsibility of the R to coordinate travel with the other officials.
Having experienced no compensation, I do not know of the exact cost per mile. I think it is 30 cents per mile.

In Portland, Oregon, we get mileage. It is based on the miles from downtown Portland to the school. It would seem that this would be unfair, since some would get lots of mileage if they travel a short distance from home to a school which is quite far from downtown, but we all get moved around enough, that it mostly works out okay.

I have no idea how the association charges the schools.

In TX, we get round trip mileage
 

Each offical gets .25/mile round trip. Some of our games are as much as 90miles away, so trip mileage adds significantly to the amount we get paid. Of course 3 hours of driving time does take its toll.

Some smaller schools in remote areas request that officials ride together and we accomidate them with this request.

On tourneys, the chapter bills the hosting school directly. There is little mileage paid for these.

In Illinois.
 

Unless you are doing a playoff game, you get no money extra for mileage. Each conference or depending on where you live, each school determines what you might get. But mileage has never been a consideration in that.

We get a flat rate of $8 for travelling to any game within 100 miles of our homes. If we go over 100 miles (one way) one person gets (I think) $0.18 per mile over the 100. You sure don't make a lot that way, but we rarely have to go that far 1-2 times per year.

In the North (Alaska)-

The school pays for our mode of transportation- Plane, Ferry, Dogsled if we go outside our own town. Most towns where I am located at you can not drive. So we get transportation, lodging and Per Diem. They normal pay a decent game fee to keep us coming back.

In our Eastern Idaho sports district (VI), the officials have negotiated with the Athletic Board and the driving official (Varsity) gets paid round trip mileage based upon the home town of the official/driver and the school's location.

The driver gets $0.33 per mile for the first 50 miles and $0.25 per mile beyond that. Usually this money is shared with JV officials if they drive separately. The Varsity official as a minimum ride together; JVs rarely make the effort to join in (a sad state of affairs).

The driver generally springs for after game drinks and a sandwich/snack... depending upon the length of the trip.

For myself the greatest travel distance (after travelling 100 miles to get to work and back home) is a 2-1/2 hour trip of about 170 miles, one-way. The travel pay for this is $87.00. Other officials living in one extreme of our district and traveling to an opposite extreme could be paid as much as $110.00.

Of course in the winter time that 2-1/2 hour trip could be 4 hours, or a potential over-night stay. But when the weather is decent, it is nice to get compensated for the time you must spend on the road.

In Wyoming we get a game fee $55.00 plus the driver gets either 40 or 44 cents per mile round trip, and the other official gets 4 cents per mile round trip....same in football

I am also in Texas. Last I checked we got 34.5/mi. round trip from our house. I did a game at 95 mi one way last year. That was a nice check.

then it's relatively modest. Avg. roundtrip for us is approximately 40 miles.

Nevada gets mileage. Driver depends on seniority and rider gets mileage pay also. Mileage paid to outside area venues. What gets crazy is that the officials that travel from out of town homes get travel pay into Reno to do games. So occasionally we will send officials from Reno to an out of town school and an official that lives near the out of town school into Reno to work on the same night.

The out of town officials make out very well on this travel allowance.

Here in our part of Washington State, (we do 2-person here for HS games) the two officials split a travel fee of either $15.00 or $20.00. (U and R each get the same amount)

Most of the schools are within about 15 miles of our central point, but because of our traffic problems (and early afternoon games) we no longer require officials to ride to games together.
