If you're asking if subs can enter during the timeout when two shots are to follow, the answer is yes.

Right, so it's pretty much a moot point, anyway.

Now I'm wondering whether the coach called a time-out to get him in. I thought it was an unusual time for a TO.

Why would he need a timeout to get him in if there were about to be 2 FTs? So he coudl look intimidating on the lane during the first one?

Let's say you noticed one of your players subbing in illegally, and the ball is dead. If you get a time-out before the officials realize the illegal sub, that sub no longer would need to be beckoned.

Admittedly, it's not very likely the coach was thinking that way, but it's a workable theory, nonetheless.
