In reality the first time this contact happens it's ignored unless it's an intentional or flagrant, and the kid would be told to cut that crap off.

Loved the metaphor, made me chuckle out loud. But....I disagree with the mentality that "this just doesn't happen." That's the mentality of an official/crew that is afraid of administering a complex penalty sequence. Look, I'm not saying we don't tend to be a little more lenient on contact involving players entering the lane on free throws because we DO tend to be a little more lenient in that case. But if there's a common foul that needs to be called before the free throw ends, I'm calling it.

Shouldn't matter what level of ball it was. The fact is that a foul happened while the ball is in flight. A2 displaced B1 to create a clear advantage for a potential rebound. Not something I think can be ignored.

Bingo.

The OP is a 1-and-1 situation.

Ah yes, thank you. I missed the potential miscommunication. Hopefully that clears it up for deecee on why the foul was called. With regard to the situation he was talking about, I totally agree. No foul unless intentional or flagrant.

This scenario was one of the stated reasons why NCAA-W did away with the one and one

Do they do the same thing as the NBA? The 5th foul of the quarter is an automatic two shots?

Yes. Though don't call it the "penalty" lest John Levinson will send you directly to ref jail. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. [emoji3]
