Quarter length for 9th grade

We are trying to work on a contract with our conference, some school want to play 7 minutes, others 6 minutes. Is there a recommended length by either IAABO or NFHS? I went to NFHS and could not find it.

Post IAABO Rule Book

Check out 5-5-1, although 5-5-3 says mutual agreement can shorten it.

5-5 ...

ART. 1 Playing time for teams of high school age shall be four quarters of
eight minutes each with intermissions of one minute after the first and third
quarters, and 10 minutes between halves. The halftime intermission may be
extended to a maximum of 15 minutes for special activities, provided home
management has properly notified the visiting team prior to the start of the game.

ART. 2 Games involving only students below the ninth grade shall be
played in six-minute quarters with intermissions as in Article 1. An organization
sponsoring games involving teams which combine ninth-grade students with
students in the eighth and/or seventh grades, may play those games in quarters
of eight minutes.

ART. 3 A quarter(s) may be shortened in an emergency or at any time by
mutual agreement of the opposing coaches and referee. Playing time and number
of quarters for nonvarsity game quarters may be reduced by mutual agreement
of opposing coaches.

Minnesota does 2 halves rather than 4 quarters...

18 minute halves for Varsity
16 minute halves for JV
14 minute halves for 9th and 10th grade games.

I think they usually run 14-minute halves for Jr High, but it might be 12 instead.

All high school games here have 8-minute quarters. Some middle schools do eight minutes, some seven. I have never seen a six-minute quarter here in scholastic basketball.

The conference I assign plays 7 minute JV quarters.

A lot of this stuff is local.

My state changed JV to 7 minutes this year, but very few schools have bumped the pay accordingly.

Travel leagues have also started doing 7 minute quarters, and those games pay as low as $20/game. Way too low IMO.

Around here it is up to the conference. Many play 7:00 minutes but not all of course.

Peace

Try it (on a sub-varsity level), you'll like it. Here in the RVA, the length of a quarter for a sub-varsity contest is all over the place (6, 7, or 8). I show up, and work the game/s.

The state regulates quarter length in Missouri.

Any game involving 7th or 8th grade players is 6-minute quarters.

Freshmen games are maximum 7-minute quarters. (Can play 6 if they want)

JV games can be any length, 6-8 minute quarters. I've had small school JV games where they play 6-minute quarters. Most play 7, some of the bigger schools play 8.

Varsity has to be 8-minute quarters.

In this area, almost all of the districts I've called have played 8 min quarters for all high school levels. Jr High varies but usually 7th grade plays 6 min and 8th plays 7-8 min.

Our rural schools play 6 min qtrs. for JV...and it is greatly appreciated on our part! The city schools play 8 mins for JV and it seems brutal at times...

We get $35 for 6 minute JV and $40 for 8 minute JV.
