I think you're using the word "beyond" too statically here. I look at it as not crossing whatever boundary line is the subject of the rule. Since we know the subject players can not be inside of the free throw line extended, and the question uses the phrase "remain beyond", then we know the question is asking if the players can cross that boundary line prior to restrictions ending.
