requesting defensive substitution

Must this be requested by HC or can a team captain make request.....or anyone know where to read up on this?

Are you talking about a defensive matchup as in 3-3-1e??

Assuming you are talking about a defensive matchup, not only CAN the captain make a request, the captain is the only one listed in 3-3-1e.

As a practical matter, I'm granting it no matter who on the team makes the request.

By rule, the R has to grant the request from the captain. The rule is silent on what to do if the request is from other than the captain. So, we get to use 2-3.

It has to be the speaking captain, the one the referee asked for in the pregame conference, the one the referee asked to show him his number, and the one that the referee asked if he was starting the game. Yada yada.
