Excited for the Next Level

Today I am excited about the opportunity to officiate my first game at the divsion 3 college level. I attended a camp over the summer and had the assignor reach out to me and tell me he felt I was almost there in terms of being invited to join his staff but asked if I wanted the opportunity to work a scrimmage for him that popped up last minute. Of course I jumped at it and today is the day! I love the discussion that takes place here and feel it has helped me grow as an official tremendously. I'm hoping I can post a few clips of today's scrimmage and get some feedback from all of you!

Congratulations! It's one of the steps in your progress. May I humbly offer some comments:

Have fun. Be yourself - that's what got you this opportunity.

Just call your game. You're there to call the game, not to perform or audition.

Communication, with your partners, the players, the coaches, is the most important part of your game.

As you do your part in the game, it will allow your partners to do theirs'. Be a great partner, and take good care of your partners. Be the kind of partner that you'd like to work with.

Smile!

You have at least one person here who works for that assignor and is also in your HS association. In fact he was an observer at that camp. You should reach out sometime.

Congrats. Don't forget the First Rule of Officiating!

Sorry, guys. I couldn't resist.

Sorry I recently switched from my traditional "cube" job and haven't quite yet figured out how to log on her consistently.

The scrimmage went very well, I felt infinitely more comfortable in the last minute of the day than the first minute. Some of the early issues were obviously related to nerves and being at that new level, but in all honesty I think it was just as much due to shaking off some rust as it had been a while since I did a full speed, 3 man game.

I was lucky enough to have been sent up with a 4 man crew, but someone had a last minute issue so we just had the 3 of us and were able to work together the entire time. Overall it was a great experience and now that I've gotten that taste I just want some more!!
