This was a pressure situation in the midcourt area (note to Billy & MTDS...yes, I remember what the midcourt area is :)). At any rate, the C is supposed to force that rotation but he can only do it if all three officials are in the frontcourt. If the T had gotten into the frontcourt sooner, the C could have moved towards the division line - or the T could have moved into the C position on his side - to bring the L across the lane.

Totally agree that C could've forced a rotation. Even without the move to the mid-court area (I too, despite being a child of the 80's, am familiar with the old 'hash mark rule.' :)) the C shouldn't have such tunnel vision on the lane area. Once the entry pass from the wing gets deflected, I don't see how the C wouldn't have seen four fists up ready to strike.

I do think the new L was keeping the home bench at bay before coming into the frame...probably a little late to the party, but let's not put too much heat on him.

No but going up with a fist means you're stopping the clock for a foul. According to p. 53 of the IAABO manual "(t)he official shall use the stop the clock/foul signal on all fouls prior to indicating the specific kind of foul." That would include technical fouls.

Maybe that is the case, but either way just my take on what was the case. He probably did not even realize that there was a fight. And it is also possible he was talking with other players and preventing them from getting involved. So much we do not know without talking to the officials or seeing a differnet angle. And with two officials on the end of the court, he does not need to be anywhere close to the situation. He needs to keep everything in his view and take numbers. For all we know, he might know who came off the bench on the right in this video and helped apply the penalties appropriate as the other two officials probably were not aware of who came off the bench. We are not Gods, we do not stop everything because we are standing in a partcular place.

This isn't really a situation where the C needs to force anything.....the Lead should already be coming across in this play. The C failed here because he decided following the ball was more important than dealing with the competitive matchup right in his lap. A force C rotation wouldn't solve anything if the C would be watching the ball the whole way anyway.
