Anyone tried the Fox 40 Sonik Blast?

Just wondering if the supposed extra decibels are true/worth it.

lifeguard whistles are the same, but not

If you get lifeguard whistles that are Fox 40 brand, they are functionally equivalent. They usually are a buck or two cheaper. But, the black ones usually have a white medical cross on the side, so I never used them for my high school games.

I did however, buy a couple of dozen of them for my teenage age referees for the twelve year old league. I added a little black marker and no one knew the difference.

Because you notice no appreciable difference from the Classic or because it is, in fact, so much louder it's tough to take?

$6 on Amazon. Buy 6 of them and don't worry about it for a few years.

Both. I deafen myself whenever I use the Sonik Blast and it is harder to manipulate the tweet.

Tried one for football. Don't like it. Takes too much air.

The Sonik sounds absolutely horrible. I refuse to use it officiating. I bought one and now use it to direct traffic at work.

I prefer the Eclipse. It sounds the exact same as the classic IMHO. I always have a few spares on hand.

If the Eclipse sounds the same, what is the advantage over the Fox 40 Classic or Fox 40 CMG?

It's got a rubber tip built-in. It's like a CMG, but it just fits in my mouth better.

I picked up a couple on a whim and until the next best thing comes along, it's my go-to whistle.

For little kids games, I have a bag full of old Acme Thunderers (remember them, the Blackberry of officiating whistles?). I found that youngsters always covered their ears when I used the Eclipse.

I actually happen to like the sonic blast for large packed gyms. I find that it different sound cut through the crowd noise better.
