End-of-game, almost CE

MS-G last night. A rare 6:30 p.m. start for that level, but it was with a very solid partner, and it turned out to be the most fun experience so far this season, for both of us.

Team H up 1 point (after being up double digits late in the third), roughly a minute remaining. They stall, effectively for a while, until Team V knocks the ball loose. V-1 controls and takes the ball down the right sideline (I'm the new L), and throws up ridiculous three-pointer from the corner with plenty of time left. Clank. After a series of offensive rebounds and missed shots, my partner has a common pushing foul on H-2.

My partner reports, we switch. Four seconds left, V throw-in on the end line. Throw-in completes, but V can't get a good shot off. H-3 commits another common pushing foul. My partner reports, I switch back to L. I notice :00 on one clock, so I swing up to see the clock on my end (far side) with tenths of seconds. It reads :00.3. Okay, no catch and release allowed here, and Coach V wisely instructs to bat the throw-in at the basket. (He should've used a time-out here, come to think of it.)

My partner settles in at the T, and I'm about to administer the throw-in. *BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ* Timekeeper signals 1-and-1 for V.

Partner identifies the shooter. I administer. Small H crowd makes big noise. Clank, tip, buzz, game. Fun ending.

On the drive home, my partner wondered aloud if the timekeeper hadn't buzzed, would we still have a correctable error. As I recall, as long as we didn't leave the floor, I believe we still did: Ball became live on the free throw, dead on quarter expiring. The window would still be open, yes?

Correctable Error ...

Assuming the foul committed on H-3 was the one for which the table was indicating you were in the bonus, then you caught it in plenty of time. If H-2 was the one they were trying to get your attention for, then it was recognized before the timeframe to correct was past.

If that were the case, then the foul for H3, for which they were about to administer a throwin, should also have been the 1+1. So either way, they would have had a correctable error situation, perhaps 2, but only the latter would have been correctable.

The end of the quarter / game is just another dead ball. It does not (by itself) end or eliminate any CE timeframe.
