Jump Stop + Foul
What do you think about this play? Proper mechanics? Posted here for discussion purposes. What, if anything, can we learn from this play?

First and foremost, don’t shoot video clips off of a TV screen
![]() Second, that’s not continuation. I doubt Red 11’s habitual motion to attempt a try includes a jump stop then taking off again. If he put up the shot while he was contacted in the air prior to the jump stop then it's continuation.

That is simultaneous in my books.

If they mean the exact same time then I think they are asking too much of any human being. Might as well take jump stops out of basketball.

Yes, at the same time. If one lands before the other it isn't simultaneous.

Gather?
Although it's not clear, it does not appear he has gathered the ball until both feet are in the air. He has the ability to then establish a pivot foot. I would not call this a travel even if you felt the feet didn't land simultaneously.

Does your state consider the play where the offensive player stops his dribble or catches the ball with both feet off the ground a jump stop? If so, they are wrong to insist that the player has to have both feet land simultaneously for the jump stop to be legal.

We have been instructed, at a camp, by staffers, any jump stop in which both feet don't land simultaneously, is a traveling violation.

If that dribbler clearly ends his dribble before take off (I don't think he did in this case), then I could see a travel there. There is a lot going on in that play, and for the lead to ascertain when the dribble ended, if the defender had LGP, and whether the jump stop was clean, all in the span of .5 seconds, I will cut a guy some slack if he doesn't see the feet.
I don't see that contact being signficant enough to be a PC, although he did appear to be in LGP. He flops a bit anticipating more contact than ended up happening. Therefore this is a no-call for me. But if you have a block here I see it as a shooting foul. If he was doing a euro step it is clearly a shooting foul, so why not on a jump stop? |

I've got a foul during the jump-stop...while shooter is still in the air. The contact caused the shooter to travel (feet did not land simultaneous...not by the standards here in N TX). Wipe the basket & give 2 shots.

In this play, did he gather in the air or on the ground? I sure can't tell.
