Adam,

We do it around here, too. But, is it mandated by rule (FED)

From Official's manual:
2.1.5 A.10 "Conduct the coach/captain's conference at the designated times(s). "

It's not specifically in the rule book. (verify with coaches is 2-4-5).

KS and MO require it.
KS: "PRE-GAME CONFERENCE WITH COACHES, PLAYERS & OFFICIALS
Prior to each game starting the officials, coaches and captains are to meet for a pre-game conference."

MO:
"H. Pre-Game Conference: Officials shall conduct a pre-game conference before each contest at center court
which the head coach of both teams (not a representative of the head coach), each team’s captains, and all the
officials much attend to discuss sportsmanship, game procedures, etc."

I hate the captains meetings. Waste of time. Nothing said here changes anything when the game starts. If I have to hear another partner (3 already this year) remind players that "black" around is OOB I'll gouge my eyes out.

Ugh

DC,

Hate it, too. At one time around here we had gotten away from having them, then the Fed came up with the triple verification mandate. That mandate is the only reason that I'm still doing one. I guess I'm looking for some other method of complying with the triple verification????

I was taught this way too, but, for a different reason - R starts the game from across from the table, so he also faces the table when doing the Captain's Meeting. So, that's how I do it.

Rationale ok? Who knows.

We do this in the coach's meeting, not the captains. (Our meetings are separate.)

IAABO doesn't have us at center court, it has us halfway between the jump ball circle, and the table.

When in Romans do as the Romans do!

Thanks. Reason for was that when I was taught the referee faced the table an u1 and u2 were opposite referee with backs toward table. I was U1 the other day and we(u2) were gathering captains and lining them up when referee reversed postions. So I was just look for some reference as to proper positions. Verdict. Do what do however u want or told to do it. Thanks

"Please lead your team in a positive manner. Players play. Coaches coach. Officials officiate. Good luck." Same for the coaches.

We actually HAD to do this in our last game. The paint job was legal but went from a really thick dark green color to the 2 inch black line, then about six of normal court followed by a two inch white line that ran the length of both end lines. The visiting team got confused a time or two and would step over the line, at least according to my P. I never saw a violation and my p never called the one or two that he did.

Here's an outline of mine:

Coaches and captains meeting at 5:00: Players properly equipped,
Players wearing uniforms properly, Practice good sportsmanship
