Captains meeting Officials positions.

Just curious. What are the positions of the three officials during the meeting with team captains at center court? Couldn't find anything in the officials manual.

R is table side of the players.
U1 and U2 are opposite the table.
All three are facing the players.

In most places, it doesn't really matter.

Standing.

SAJ Mon Jan 06, 2014 02:15pm

We have R facing table while U1/U2 are near table looking out towards the court to keep watch on players warming up.

Rich Mon Jan 06, 2014 02:20pm

It varies here.

When I'm the R, I put my back to the table, tableside. That way when I'm done, I only have to turn around and I'm a few steps from the table. U1/U2 merely have to back out to their usual positions.

NFHS Official's Manual does not say ... IAABO manual, page 101, says R faces table and U1/U2 backs to the table.

I don't think there is a specified position.

We just stand wherever we end up but with one on each side.

I'm not sure there really needs to be a specified mechanic here for anyone but the most AR.

mandatory?

Is the captains' meeting mandatory by rule? Can you "verify" the legal, worn properly, sporting behavior in some other manner than the captains' meeting?

It's mandatory here. I do not verify legal equipment there, it's quick.

"Take care of your knuckleheads so we don't have to step in.

Have a good game, fellas."

(Or "players" if they're ladies.)

Adam,

We do it around here, too. But, is it mandated by rule (FED)

MD Longhorn Mon Jan 06, 2014 04:03pm

R's position is firmly and staunchly Conservative
U1's position is quarterback.
Us'2 position is lotus.

Officials manual 3.1.5 A. 8

Conduct the coach/captain conferences at the designated time(s). Verify with the head coach that team members are legally and properly equipped and that all participants are expected to exhibit proper sporting behavior.

Rule 2-4-5
The referee shall:

ART. 5

Verify with the head coach, prior to each contest, that his/her team member's uniforms and equipment are legal and will be worn properly, and that all participants will exhibit proper sporting behavior throughout the contest.

Seems the rule requires at least a coach's meeting. Captains meetings are apparently optional (check local listings.)
