Well, they don't have to take them out, but if they don't they can NOT play.

I had to deal with this in our first scrimmage this year. The girl had a huge hole in each earlobe with a flexible rubber thing in there to...well...I'm not sure what the purpose was. We told the coach it won't be allowed in games - it's still jewelry. And it's just a PITA to deal with this kind of nonsense.
