Non traditional jersey colors have become the rage in the last 2 or 3 years. I've had wreck teams and club teams use neon yellow, neon green and pink in multiple tournaments and league games.

Specially made for cancer awareness. They wore them at home. You should've seen the look the AD gave me when I asked if the state office had approved those as a home uniform. He quickly realized I was kidding.

I've seen them in Womens D1 but generally the HS and club teams around these parts don't have the kind of scratch necessary for special uniforms.

Sometimes, when I remember, if it's not obviously a 'standard' color I'll ask a captain pre-game what their official school colors are. If they say 'scarlet' I have no problem saying scarlet rather than red. Now if they 'chartreuse', well I'm probably saying green (yes, I had to google chartreuse). But if it's maroon or scarlet or something relatively easy to say, no problem to me.
