OT: My son's team's buzzer beater

I must share this.

If anyone saw last night's SportsCenter's Top Ten, you would have seen a high school team's buzzer beater for the Eastern Maine Class A Championship: Lawrence (Fairfield) vs. Hampden Academy. My son is the senior manager for Hampden.

NEW VIDEO SITUATION: Fewer than 10 seconds left, score 37-37, Lawrence (blue) driving to the far basket (the foul occurs with 4.7 to go):

More info: Hampden Academy was 20-0 going into this game, and beating their opponents by an average margin of 27 points. Lawrence played a brilliantly crafted game in which they put Hampden completely out of sync. Prior to this shot, Hampden's previous lead was early in the second quarter, 9-8. The rebound-to-shooter connection seen here is a brother-to-brother pair, junior to freshman.

Did he call bank?

Looks like a great atmosphere!

Back when I was a senior in HS in Maine, there was a player for Lawrence who led his team on an improbable run to the state championship with no less than 2 buzzer beaters in the 4 game playoff run.

Congrats on the opportunity...not everyone has a chance to play in a state championship game. I was fortunate to do so in soccer. The memory lasts a lifetime.

Bump

The original video got removed. New footage was posted, with a better angle of the reaction.

A couple of notes on the officiating from what I see in the video.
Maine allows gray shirts and has the calling official in 3-man go opposite table.

What an ending...congrats and what a great gym. Assuming a small college auditorium? Feels like your right on court.

Augusta Civic Center. A small college or two do play there, but it's primarily a multi-use building. Agree that it's a great atmosphere, although not everyone up here agrees with that....

A better arena

Very small college, as UMaine-Augusta is part of the USCAA, but it's really more of a municipal arena that's adjacent to the small college campus. The place is far more packed for high school tournaments. It's a good atmosphere.

For my money, though, our state's best basketball tourney location is the one they're closing this year -- the Bangor Auditorium. It's great for basketball, but horrible for everything else. The 57-year old barn is being replaced with a new arena next door. Here's a look at probably the best buzzer beater there, 2001 Class A State Championship, Deering (of Portland) vs. Bangor. (I rigged the video to start a few minutes in. Watch the clock in the closing seconds.)
