I'm working off memory, but I believe the shot went off the backboard, hit the rim, then cleared the cylinder before being touched by the KU defender.

Lots of whining about what KU players are doing tonight. Perhaps there are fanboys in the house.

If the ball was headed away from the basket and had no chance to go in, then the try was over, even if the ball was still above the rim. No try, no GT.
