Video: Marquette @ Georgetown

1:46 remaining in the first half. (JetMetfan please post video when you can.)

Marquette's Vander Blue shoots a 3 and while still airborne uses his left arm to hook and pull down the defender who was challenging the shot.

Of note is that under NFHS rules this would be a PC foul, but for NCAAM it is not as the foul clearly comes following the release of the try. Unfortunately, the officiating crew did not award Georgetown 1-1 FTs, and G'town made a 3 on the ensuing possession.

Posted for the instructive value of an unusual play.
How often does one see a 3pt shooter commit a foul?
Not too surprised that the crew failed to award the 1-1 on the other end.
Btw the try was missed, but by rule would have counted had it gone in. That would have been fun to see.

Interesting play to be sure.

Did the shooter really do much to pull the defender down? I understand protecting an airborne player but it didn't seem like much to me from the camera angles.

Wow. That was a gutsy (great) call. That official had to be pretty dialed in to pick up on that. I'm willing to bet most would let that go and play on...

I see his left arm grab the defender and pull. Probably looked a lot more clear from ten feet away.

Too bad that he wasn't as dialed in with his rule application.

nevadaref, please elaborate on HS rules. If this were a high school play I think I would have the same thing, shooter creates all of the contact: kicking legs, hit to the face with the hand. I don' see the defender doing anything wrong. What do teh rest of you have to say on the play?

I think everybody agrees the foul is on the shooter. NFHS rules this would be a PC foul. Wipe out the shot and go the other way.

I think this foul is more for his legs kicking out that trips the defender. Not sure it is for the arms, but at least that is what I first noticed.

Peace
