Double Disaster Struck Last Night!

Boys' H.S. Jr. Varsity Game:

First Disaster:

Padgett don't read this: OVERTIME!!

Second Disaster:

The score is tied with 2.7 seconds left in the first overtime period. H1 has just committed a traveling violation and the Visitor's have the ball out of bounds for a throw-in table side on its front court endline; I am the administering official. V1 passes the ball to V2 who takes one dribble and goes straight up for a layup and a two point lead. As the ball passes through the net, I look at the game clock at the other end of the court and it still shows 2.7 seconds; . Mark, Jr., is seeing the same thing on the clock on the wall behind me and we put air in our whistles at the same time.

We met at center court to discuss the situation. We agreed that whether the Timer forgot to start the clock or there was a clock malfunction that the play happened so fast that we did not have definite knowledge as to how much time had elapsed. We knew that we were going to have to bite the bullet and explain the situation to both coaches: The Home Team would get the ball to make a throw-in anywhere along the endline in its backcourt with 2.7 seconds on the clock.
We called the coaches together and explained the situation. Surprisingly, the V-HC had no problem with our solution. H1 took the ball for the throw-in on the table side of the free throw lane and "rolled right" and fired a deep pass that was intercepted by V4 who passed the ball up court to V3 and the game ended.

All while the officials thought "please don't go in, please don't go in..."
