End of game procedures

After all this time, this was a first for me.

GV game ends Friday evening without incident. After I've left the court I notice my partner isn't with me. I look back and he's at the midcourt circle. When he comes in to our dressing area I ask him what kept him and he said he wanted to watch the post-game handshake in case anything happened (not a requirement, btw). My next question: "If something happened, what would you do?" He said he would notify our league (the NYC PSAL). I said that's all well and good but if something happened after we left the visual confines that's the schools' headache. Plus, if something happens and people other than players are on the court that's a good time for someone to take a swing at him.

Are any of you required to watch the post-game handshake lines in your areas? Just curious.

Not in Ontario. I think Connecticut went through something where they had to watch the handshake. Not sure if they still do.

And if something happens, yes maybe he would notify the league, but he would also have to dole out punishment.

The only handshakes we observe are with other officials at the local pub that night.

Never, here in the Constitution State. I'm pretty sure that they do observe the postgame handshakes in the Bay State, just north of us.

Never here in so cal! once the horn sounds the varsity officials come over to shake hands with the table, grab their jackets and then go.JV officials may stay and make sure both varsity officials are at the site and then go.Our school pays cash and we get that taken care of before JVG and VG (1'st game for each crew)

Post game the Var. official go to the table to get their jackets and shake hands with the table?

My jacket is in the lockerroom for the 2nd half and I'm not going anywhere near the table unless they flag us down for a problem. Straight to the lockerroom on the horn.

Same here in my little corner of Connecticut.

Believe it or not, around here there are some coaches that make a point of stepping out on the floor to shake our hands on our way off. I'm not looking for them, and certainly not waiting for them, but I don't snub them either.

People love to suggest things are all about mechanics, where does it say this is a requirement?

Peace

Most of our people come to the game site dressed and anyone who wants to get dressed before their game, meet at halftime in a private locker room,or shower can use the AD's office if they ask.Our set up is one where the table and team benches are set on the opposite side from fans. They get two chairs to hang their jackets on and conference which are set about 5 feet from the table. We offer them a bottle of water but otherwise the halftime is there's to discuss the game.A coach or kid may occassionally ask a question but it is always in a respectful manner.

And that is how it's done in SoCal. At half time the jackets make it into the locker. Once the horn sounds we get out of dodge.
