Xavier/Cincinnati
Just saw this...
Cincinnati players jumps for a rebound dunk. Misses the dunk and holds onto the rim with one hand and dunks the miss while ball above the rim. C calls a basket interference. As he is the lead is running out waving off the shot calling the same. My question, Why is the lead calling this? Is there a mechanic in college game which calls for this? |

I thought it was in the half court, maybe not.

Of course, but that isn't what the OP described. Besides, if you were hanging on for safety, would you be taking a hand off to dunk your own miss? Seems excessive and unnecessary.

If someone's is under the offender, then it's for safety purposes. Instincts may have taken over and he reacted to the ball.

Yes. It's called the "get-the-call-right" mechanic. When it's THAT obvious, blow the whistle and make the call regardless of your positioning...
(of course, if you wait a few minutes, there will be an avalanche of posts disputing my last sentence) |

Yeah. Because you may have heard of this. Different supervisors have different philosophies.
