Putting the ball in play and not commenting on everything a coach says ends pretty much most discussion and prevents unnecessary things from popping up. Your partner already told him what he saw, going back and forth, IMO, does nothing good.

I think my biggest improvement in dealing with coaches in the last couple of years is learning to ignore statements if they're not persistent, profane, or personal. Most of the time they'll get the hint and move on pretty quickly. If they don't, penalize them accordingly.

I agree. Learn to let some things slide and it's OK to let the coach have the last word sometimes. As my football crew chief says, "Remember, you already know how this discussion is going to end."
