Team 6th foul "mechanic"
Does anyone have a certain mechanic, proper or otherwise, that communicates to your partner(s) that the 6th team foul is in the books, and to identify a shooter on the next ones?

{type of bonus} could be "single", "double", "1 and 1", "automatic". You get the idea. I have no problems if the coaches, players or fans hear me. |
In different areas I have seen different communications on this. When I lived in the Philadelphia area we would simply talk to remind one another that we were in the bonus on the next foul (or double bonus). Now living in Phoenix area I have seen and have heard that they like to use the 1 and 1 signal (using one hand extending the index and little fingers at the same time, and I understand that it is not an approved NFHS signal but works for crew communication) and then point the direction while continuing to extend the two fingers.
To identify the shooter, I will point at the player who was fouled and say "shooter" I will not point at the player who committed the foul however |
I get my partners' attention and give them the 'longhorns' signal and point towards the basket to which it applies.

Do you point with the same hand and give the longhorn signal to the side to indicate the direction that will be shooting the bonus or to you use the other hand and traffic cop it? |
We do the long horn signal while verbalizing the color.

I get my partners' attention, give the "hook em horns" signal while saying "NEXT ONE" and pointing to the proper end of the floor.
I do the same on the ninth foul, except I use the index/middle fingers. We don't have any schools in this area who don't put the fouls up on the board and I can only remember one time they've been wrong on the board in the area the last few years at the varsity level. |
