Team 6th foul "mechanic"
Does anyone have a certain mechanic, proper or otherwise, that communicates to your partner(s) that the 6th team foul is in the books, and to identify a shooter on the next ones?

You look at him and say bonus on next foul.

In different areas I have seen different communications on this. When I lived in the Philadelphia area we would simply talk to remind one another that we were in the bonus on the next foul (or double bonus). Now living in Phoenix area I have seen and have heard that they like to use the 1 and 1 signal (using one hand extending the index and little fingers at the same time, and I understand that it is not an approved NFHS signal but works for crew communication) and then point the direction while continuing to extend the two fingers.
To identify the shooter, I will point at the player who was fouled and say "shooter" I will not point at the player who committed the foul however Last edited by SAK; Sun Dec 09, 2012 at 06:38pm. |

Do you point with the same hand and give the longhorn signal to the side to indicate the direction that will be shooting the bonus or to you use the other hand and traffic cop it? |

That is what I do. Not a mechanic per say, just a communication tool.

That is fine and I know several people who do that, I just hate it when someone does this prior to the 1st attempt on a shooting foul which was the teams 6th of the half. Very confusing. It makes me unsure if the partner is trying to tell me that this is a 1-and-1, if he is asking me if this is a 1-and-1, or communicating about the next foul by this team. There is nothing wrong with a little extra communication, but for heaven's sake, pick a better time to do it!

{type of bonus} could be "single", "double", "1 and 1", "automatic". You get the idea. I have no problems if the coaches, players or fans hear me.
