For those of you who think this is a charge, STOP looking at where the defender takes the contact (i.e. chest/center mass)....the defender HAS to establish LGP I. Order to have a PC (this is the problem identified by John Adams at the NCAA-M level - too many poor PC calls).
This defender NEVER has LGP. |

You like it? To be honest, I don't, too flashy and our old grey shirts looked better.
For the record: I had a blocking foul on the play.

I see this as a 50/50.
You gotta slow it down to see that Neanderthal guy from the Geico commercials establishes LGP at 9:05, then moves laterally when contact is made at 9:06 before the offensive player leaves the ground. |

CHARGE!!
And I love the color of the shirts that the officials are wearing. ![]() MTD, Sr.

At regular speed I have a block as the contact appears to be mostly in the extended leg.
Frame by frame I see LGP established. However, at the point of contact the B player appears to be moving towards the A player and it still looks like the majority of the contact is in the leg (thigh area) of the left leg that is extended beyond the frame. But then, I have noticed a tendency on my part to default to a block and it is something that I am working on this season. The Ohio State training video for this year has some excellent examples of PC fouls that I would have called as blocks. I will be bringing this video for discussion to our association meeting. |

This is a block IMO because when the contact occurs the defender has stuck his leg out and that's where the contact occurs. |

He did have LGP at the start of the play but he was beat on the first dribble and lost LGP at that point. He was running beside the opponent most of the play trying to catch up. He needed to get into a guarding position again (in the path) and then get two feet down to obtain LGP again. He didn't do that so he didn't have LGP when it mattered.

I did....a few times...the path of the offensive player was to the basket, after getting beat at the start, the defender never got his torso between the offense and the basket again. He got his leg there, but that is it.

...before I even looked at this video, I read everyone's posts...
(we don't get certain videos here at work so I could not watch it initially) I thought for sure I would be calling this a CHARGE...since it seemed like some were saying this was a 50/50 call. On a close 50/50 block/charge call...I go charge. I finally got to see this video (on my phone)...I've got block...I didn't really think it was that close.

We have a bunch of block votes and a bunch of charge votes.
If any coaches or players or fans are lurking, can you imagine what they're thinking: "these guys can't even agree on what the call is". ![]()
