Double dribble?

Last night we had one that I don't think I have encountered in many years of work. Point guard dribbling in midcourt area in last minute of period while defense sits back in zone. Coach starts talking to kid and he forgets to bounce the ball a couple of times and it comes to rest on the floor. When he looks back down he hits the top of the ball to get it started bouncing again and resumes his dribble. Of course the other coach wants a violation. We no called it and, looking at the definition of a dribble at half, did not see where letting the ball come to rest and then causing it to bounce again ended the dribble.

Comments? If proven wrong I will have learned something. I know that I learned that kids make the game new every night.

I think you were right...none of the elements that end the dribble occurred.

Be honest, tell the coach you wouldn't know what to call.

My question is whether the ball was properly inflated if it came to rest after just a couple of bounces.

What? Inflated? I thought that basketballs were stuffed. I'd better start reading my rulebook.
