Boy - did this bring back memories
Ran into a ref buddy this morning (no, not with my car) and we started talking. He brought up a HS rec game we worked together about 5 or 6 years ago. He was lead and had a blarge on the baseline. He called A1 for the PC foul. While he was reporting it, A1 and B1 got into a shoving match and then they both traded punches. A2 and B2 both tried to break it up but then they got to shoving each other also. A few players came off the bench as did both head coaches who also got into a shoving match!
By the time it was over, we had ejected six players from team A, five from team B, both HCs and one AC. We had to get a parent to come and sit on their bench to continue the game. Unfortunately, this didn't happen in the kids rec league for which I am on the Board, or there would have been automatic suspensions, etc. Oh yeah - did I mention it was a girls game!?!? This probably was the worst event of this kind that I can remember. Any of you guys have anything this bad - or worse?

Believe it or not, I had a partner do this once. Came out strong as lead and sold the charge, only to change his mind partway through and give the block signal. His was the only whistle, fortunately, so I did not have to break the tie. I did the Simpson blink while staying completely silent.

I've actually had two partners self-blarge in the past four seasons. Each followed his whistle with one hand behind his head and the other on his hipVeRacity comical to watch. On the second one the play was in my area as C and it was the Lead who came running over like this. I just dropped my fist and let him have it. The best part was that the coach asked me what the call was and I responded that my partner would get together with himself and sort it out. He laughed enough that he didn't even argue when the call ended up going against his player. |

The Party State ...
Connecticut is the bluest of the blue states. Nothing is illegal here. In a few weeks the governor will probably sign bills that allow the use of medical marijuana, and we will be able to shop for alcohol on a Sunday for the first time since Prohibition. Party on.

I think I'm right on the alcohol info but, since I don't drink any of it, I might be wrong.

You guys really want to put forth your states for being the most liberal about what activities are legal?
We've got gambling, drinking, guns, medical marijuana, and even prostitution. Now how do you beat that? |

BTW - I know this is way off topic, but you guys might get a kick out of knowing that my grandfather, back in the 1920s in Chicago (which is where my family is from), worked in a casino for Al Capone. Not kidding.
