I agree now that I take another glance at it. The C was emphatic with scoring the goal. It would be interesting to know what his partners said to him but if I'm that strong calling a last-second shot - one way or another - I'd like to think my partners would trust me, especially since it's my call.

That is why I am such a great basketball official: I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. LOL

MTD, Sr.

One more eye, and they'd call you Cyclops

It was an easy call. The dribbler pushed off with her free arm and practically knocked the defendeer on her tuchus.

MTD, Sr.

You may have a point here...minus the gender confusion.

It looked like a possible flop on the defender, but what about the push off on the offensive player driving to the basket?

Would like to see if the T had an equally emphatic wave off. The C definitely thought it was good.

could be that this falls into the "big timing" category....

i can easily see a different scenario: T comes in to ask if the C was 100% certain if shot was good....C says he wasn't 100% sure, T said he thought it was no good...."if we're not sure, we can always go to another overtime".....

Toren Tue Mar 13, 2012 07:01pm

Hard one

On first view, I thought no good. Of course, now we all know it was good.

I didn't think it was an offensive foul either, as the player didn't extend or displace the defender. Looked like a classic flop there, but the angle isn't great to be certain one way or the other.

It wasn't the T's call so he wouldn't/shouldn't have been making a signal one way or the other.

It looks like the C went right over to the T after the call, though you can't tell whether he went on his own or was called over. Guessing here but I'll say he was called over since I know if I was that strong with a game-winning shot I would've just started running off the court.

Guessing again I'm thinking the T either said "are you sure?" or "the shot was late." Again, I'm still surprised the C changed his call because he was so emphatic that it was good.

The T did not do anything to signal what he thought. The officials did come together so that they could get it right. The call was going to send someone home and the C wanted to be sure and put aside his ego in order to confer with his partners. Also the C had about 6 players in front of him and the light and the clock did not match up. There is a picture (which I will have to find again) that shows the light on with .01 seconds left on the clock.

Remember these guys did not have replay to review like the NCAA guys. If the original call stood someone was going home. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Peace
