You can scratch off my state. They have not yet approved that policy. I wish they would, but not something most of us have to even worry about as it would only apply to the State Finals.

Peace

Minnesota has it for televised games which are all semifinals and finals in the 4 classes. I also think MN was the 1st state to adopt Instant Replay for state tourney games. IIRC it came after Blake Hofharbers shot in 2005 as a sophmore which was ruled correctly as good.

I guess I don't really understand the championship game only... why not the Semi-Final?

I suppose it depends on the format. If your state has approved replay for the championship game only, what is your State site format?

For example, at the State site in Illinois, they play the Semi-Final, Third Place, and Championship games at the State site over two days.

The NFHS rule says that state can adopt instant replay for "state championship series contests." That can mean different things for different states. I would also guess it depends on what gets televised.

Here, we have east and west regional tournaments for nearly every sport, with the east and west champions meeting for the state championship ("Gold Ball" in basketball). Regional semifinals, finals, and state title games are broadcast live (and most are streamed, too). While we don't have this rule, I suppose there'd be an argument whether regional tournament games qualify as state championship series contests. (I would say "yes" to that.)

I like the spirit of this rule, but I see one big flaw: This should apply to all quarters of a basketball game. The points at the end of the first three quarters count as much as those at the end of a game.

While I agree that if they're going to use it, they should allow it for any quarter or OT ending. However, while your final sentence is true, in theory, it's not true in practice. Two points at the end of the first quarter may be important, but they are not as important as the points at the final buzzer of the game.

We've been down this road before. While, indeed, plays cascade upon each other in the closing minutes, tell that to the coach who just lost by two points, and whose team went 4-for-8 from the line in the first half.

Honestly, I don't base my opinion on this matter on the views of a coach in the immediate agony of a close loss.

Adopted as usual

Indiana. Fourth quarter or overtime in State Championship game only and only if it would affect the outcome of the game.

Our format has a one game State Final for each of 4 classes.
