Rut got himself published online! He's using a pseudonym (no, not an eponym!), but it's clearly him. Check out

Note, this whole post is made with tongue firmly planted in cheek!

Very funny, thanks!

BTW, anyone who's ever been inside a casino realizes that they break what seems to be some pretty fundemental laws of physics by placing everything a half mile away from anything else. And the only way to get from point A to point B is through a wrinkle in space occupied by slots, blackjack, craps & roulette tables.

If I print out the article and mail it to him, I wonder if Jeff will autograph it for me. . .

I am the only person that just does not like Women's Basketball. So much that the ratings are so high and threw the roof that the X-Games have a larger audience than the WNBA Season. BTW, I did not here anyone talk about the start of the season this past weekend. But then again, you were watching Chuck.

Peace

Are you sure he's the "righter"?

You might not like Jeff, but I respect his stance on the subject. IMO, the two games are totally different. I don't really enjoy women's basketball either, but I love the men's game. I don't work the women's game because I don't enjoy it. Nothing wrong with that IMO. I thought the writer of the article hit the nail on the head when she wrote that it isn't politically correct, but it is the way people feel.

Stripes, the post has nothing to do with liking or disliking him. He's simply the one who always voices the "I don't like women's hoops" side of things on this board, that's all. So when I saw this "I don't like the WNBA" article, it seemed natural to attribute it to him. Doubtless there are others (like yourself, apparently) who prefer to watch men's basketball than women's, and there's nothing wrong with that; Rut just says so more often than most on this board. That's all.

It's Rut and the editor of his article must have had the premium version of spell check to get it edited. I didn't know Rut was only 5'2" though. :-)

Chuck,

Here you go again making some grandious statement that is not true. This is not about Women's sports in general, it is just about basketball. When I watch tennis, I watch the women's side mainly. I watched the Women's World Cup when Brandy Chastain(sp?) took off her shirt. Actually I watched most of the tournament as well, not just the finals. I also think the point that stripes makes, is that many people have the same attitude. This article did not just come out in a bubble, there is obviously people that feel that way about women's basketball and many that I know are women. But when you say that, the PC police come out and rip you for giving a common belief and try to question your integrity for feeling that way. Camp season has started and if you are going to some of the camps I am attending, used to working girl's and women's college games, you will not get hired. Just a fact of life and nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Peace

My bad. I've edited my post to reflect that. Wouldn't want anybody to think that you ever make sweeping overgeneralizations.

Um, I think if you read the underlined part of my post above, you'll notice that I made that point even before stripes did.

Hey, Porky, send Rut that humor plug-in, would ya? He musta missed the part of my post that said my tongue was in my cheek.

My reference for "you" was not directed at you personally, Chuck, but rather at the collective "you" of the board folks. I agree that he voices his opinions more than most, but he has taken this stance and stuck with it, even in the face of ridicule and scorn for doing it. In today's politically correct world where it is not ok to not like something because of a gender based reason, I respect him for doing that. The fact that the NBA's $$ are backing it and forcing down basketball fan's collective throats is the only reason, IMO, that the league has survived. The products is not very good and is not entertaining IMO. I agreed with the writer of the article almost 100%

I personally prefer sports on a case by case basis--women's tennis and volleyball are two that I prefer to their male counterpart sports.

Chuck unlike yourself I do not need to drink a beer to tell this board what I think about issues. And I did not say you made an overgeneralization (get it right), I said you exaggerated that the point I make about women's basketball only comes from me. The reality is most officials I know have a preference between Men's and Women's ball. The truth is that many here are afraid to say what they think.

Stripes can speak for himself. And he already did.

The one that needs to lighten up is you Chuck. As usual you think this is an emotional topic when it is not even a blip on the radar. If you did not want to respond, why use my name to make a joke? And I got the joke, just stated that I am not the only one that feels that way and stripes made that very clear. You claim to be an accomplished official (despite your shortcomings) that has done D3 Men's Playoffs if I am not mistaken. Do you tell me that you do not find other officials that say the same thing if not worse about women's basketball. Because if assignors in my area will not hire officials because they are considered "girl's" officials, then I am sure this is the case around the country. It is not like when Annika Sorenstan played in the Memorial PGA Event, that the only critics came from Illinois. But then again, you do not want to have a "real" discussion about an issue, you just want to live in your protected world of fantasy. I would feel so constrained by lying to myself and everyone about what I really think about something. Not the way I was raised, not the way I have lived.

Peace
